We cannot separate Truth from fearlessness. One truthful person, a Jesus, Buddha,
Krishna, Vivekananda, Ramakrishna, Saint Francis, Saint Augustine, Saint Teresa
or many like that, have stood alone like a flame without any security, without
any bank balance, without any doctor or even so-called relations or friendships.
They have stood without any armor, without any excuses, without any falsehoods.
They have stood alone in the world and guided thousands without fear, each
one of them. Wherever they went, they were free souls.
OW
COULD THEY GUIDE THOUSANDS and stand against any odds, in even adverse
conditions, and face it all with a smile? You will find in all of them three
most prominent aspects, whether from East or West. One is their unflinching,
unswerving devotion to the Lord. That is very important. They were conscious
instruments of the Lord, not just serving their own ends or position; not making
use of God for their own gratification. Second, at no cost would they
be untruthful; neither for pecuniary gain, prestige or ego saving would
they be untruthful, ever. At the most they would keep quiet. And the third, do
you know what has been the most common characteristic among the saints, sages
and mystics of all religions?

You will be surprised but it is
a very normal thing. Their love for humanity was tremendous. They did not only
love God, they loved man equally.
These three common factors made them fearless at
any point of adversity, whether they were suffering from disease, or enmity or
being crucified. They had no military; they had no guns; they had no money;
they had no credit cards; they had no silver or gold buried under the earth
for when the holocaust comes. They had no closet full of medicines; they didn't
even have closets for clothes. You may say, "They were great. They could do
it." But I assure you, because they lived this way, therefore
they were great. It is not because they were born great that they did these
things. God is not so partial. They lived it; therefore they were great. And
the proof is that we worship them.
Reason does not create faith; reason arrives at faith
eventually. In other words, faith is the true fruit of right reasoning. It is
faith that makes you Realize. By faith you will find the Lord. When you will
have that Truth and faith and fearlessness, God will come to you. He is already
within you.
