THERE IS A STORY OF A SUFI HOLY MAN who was to be stoned to death for blasphemy. The people were ordered to throw stones at him or they would also be put to death. One of his disciples cleverly decided to throw a flower at him instead. That flower hurt him more than all the stones that were lacerating his body. We do not understand these things. Therefore I would emphasize this point over and over again: face your mind. Try to know your mind and subconscious first and its motives. This will help you a lot in meditation, in coming out of your barriers into Superconsciousness. Belief will help you, no doubt about that, but you have to go through your mind. That is the greatest journey. When someone tells me that so-and-so did some ordinary things, I don’t really mind it. To be ordinary is okay but to be a spiritual materialist is not okay. So beware of this way. Draw the line in between. As a seeker you have more responsibility than those who are engrossed in the world. Due to meditation, yoga or study of scriptures, your vibrations are such that you may have achieved a little more power than an ordinary person. So be very careful how you apply your thoughts, speech and action.

Therefore Lord Krishna said in the Bhagavad Gita that the seeker or Master or holy people on the path should be very careful because others will copy them. If my disciple says something, it will be more believable than from a non-disciple. There is a greater duty for spiritual seekers. The spiritual materialist will betray others in lesser or greater degree, sooner or later. This was known to Jesus and Krishna; therefore they had predicted and knew where betrayal would lead eventually. Many people cannot understand or analyze this. That is exactly why the spiritual growth of the world is so slow. It is not through a profession that you can be spiritual but by hard labor, by meditation, by yoga, purity, truthfulness, selflessness, forgiveness, letting go and non-reaction. Therefore it is not in name only that one is a disciple. It is quite a different judgment, as God or your Master would see it. They know the minds of the disciples.
