How can we arouse these feelings? First bring in the idea and focus. Though at that point there are no feelings, go on with it. The laws of nature are such that when you go on focusing, even though mechanically and intellectually, at one point you reach a second level and feelings are aroused. Then you will touch the intermediary connecting force and vibrations. That will give you much more satisfaction than what we call mundane life, the ordinary values that have gripped us. Normally feelings are only aroused when selfishness comes up. Then for the time being we are awakened. But as soon as attachments or greed are removed, the feelings cool down again. It has no constancy; therefore we miss the contact with this Cosmic Substance that is always around us and in us.
      We miss this Truth because of our identification with self and ego. It is like keeping the horse behind the cart. Our concentration goes on identifying with the cart; we take it for granted that the horse is there. Worshipping the image of God to start with is okay, but don’t end there. The world, the family, the ashram and the society are a school to learn how to use our feelings, but don’t end there. Human beings have this faculty of feelings in them. Some animals have it and some do not. But if we do not use feelings or use them only for selfish motives, this cosmic force remains untapped.

      Whenever you have a dilemma, a question, or you cannot solve a problem by your own means, focus on the Presence of God. Gradually you will see that the clouds will scatter. But if again you bring in selfish motives or attachment, then the horse is put back behind the cart and you will have the same drama. Never waste your energy in trying to do things. “I’m trying my best.” That is a very pitiable answer from a human being. When you want to do it, just do it. If ever you succeed while trying, it will only be when you have stopped trying and started doing. But if you find that—”I did it; it didn’t happen”—it may show your incapacity. Then you have to increase your capacity. On the spiritual path, this requires practices.
      Why is the Light not shining all the time? “It’s not in my hands.” Believe me, it is in your hands. God is within you, where else? You tried not to do it. You tried to find another way, using excuses, therefore it did not happen. There is nothing you cannot do. Age, nationality, cultural background, size and weight do not matter. The brain calculates size, weight, distance, speed, etc. In the higher truth, there is no mathematics. Therefore when God calls, a simple heart can reach Him. Calculating can reach you to a point, but beyond that you have to be simple again. That will be good faith. Just do it. You will see somehow that energy just rushes in. That is the way to grow into higher mysteries.
